I am posting this in the hope that someone will be able to point me in the appropriate direction please.
One of my family was illegitimate and was born in Toxteth Liverpool in 1920. His birth certificate as you would expect shows his mothers name but not his fathers.
The couple which he grew up with, and calling them mum and dad, according to other family members travelled to Liverpool on the train and returned on the same day with him as a baby.
My questions are is that, as it was prior to the legal process of adoption which was introduced 1st January 1927, how would adoption or fostering have been arranged prior to this date? Was there organisations dedicated to such work, in particular in and around Toxteth? How would the children be advertised?
