Hello everyone, I am in Manitoba, Canada and would ask if someone could look up a burial for me. I am prepared to pay for the research either by bank transfer, PayPal, cheque or Mastercard.

The burial I am looking for is of Cecil Reginald BEDDOES born 8th July 1902 died 21st October 1964. At the time of death he lived at Manor farm, 112 Little Harlescott Lane, Shrewsbury. Possibly buried in one of the Ness churchyards as there were family connections in that area.

If anyone is able to assist I would be most grateful.

Vic.

Hello Vic

I have just been told that Cecil Reginald BEDDOES is buried in the Shrewsbury Cemetery, Longden Road, Shrewsbury.  The registers are at Shropshire Archives but they are not open to the public again until next Wednesday so it will be after that before it will be possible to look up the burial details and the location of the grave.

Hello Mike, Thank you so very much, if you would let me know what and how I can pay you for your work,   I will arrange payment.

His grandson will be most pleased as he was looking to visit the grave.

Gratefully,

Vic.

Hello Vic

It appears that the information I was given previously about the cemetery burial was incorrect.  Maybe this referred to other members of his family, possibly his sons.

I have now looked at a copy of our local weekly newspaper, the Shrewsbury Chronicle for Friday 30th October 1964 page 18 column 3 at the bottom of the page where it has a report of the death and funeral of Mr Cecil Reginald BEDDOES where it says that he was cremated on Monday 26th October 1964.

It has the additional information that he was born in Cheshire and previously lived at Sherrifhales (in eastern Shropshire) and that he was survived by his wife, 2 sons F.H. & P.B. BEDDOES, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

I have contacted our local crematorium at Emstrey, Shrewsbury (which only opened in 1958)
http://www.emstreycrematorium.co.uk/ and they told me the cremation information in the newspaper was correct and they also said that his ashes were interred at Little Ness churchyard.

A transcript of Little Ness churchyard memorials was made in 1999 but there is no mention of Cecil Reginald BEDDOES so it seems unlikely that there is a marker on his resting place.  There are however two memorials for other Beddoes which may be of interest:-

In Loving Memory of Walter BEDDOES who Died Feb 7th 1948 aged 76 years Also Ester Ellen his Wife Who Died December 16th 1958 Aged 84

In memory of our dear parents Harold Walter BEDDOES Died 26th October 1972 aged 72 years Daisy BEDDOWS Died July 7th 1973 aged 72 years R.I.P

There is no plan with this transcription so I can't tell you exactly where these graves are but Little Ness is quite a small churchyard so they should be fairly easy to find.

When I was talking to the Crematorium staff they also told me that Cecil's widow Florence May BEDDOES was cremated in 1985 and her ashes were scattered at the Crematorium on the green area adjacent to Wall 15.  They have a number of walls for memorial plaques to be fixed onto but there isn't one for Florence, however there is an entry for Florence in the Book of Remembrance for 1985 page 115 which can be viewed in the Chapel but you need to contact the Crematorium in advance so they can arrange for that book and page to be on display on the day that you intend to visit.

Wow Mike, thank you for all that information, I will pass it along to his grandson and update the family tree information.

Would you please let me know what I owe you for your time and trouble and I will forward a payment, I never expect research to be done for free.

Hi Vic,

Apologies but I have not logged onto the Shropshire Family History Society website for quite sometime and have therefore only just seen your post.

Harold Walter Beddoes is a brother to Cecil Reginald and their parents are also buried in the same Church yard. As you approach the main enterance to the church Harold and his wife Daisy are buried to the right of the path. Their parents are buried around the other side of the church. I am sure that I have some photographs of the graves somewhere as Harold and Daisy were my grandparents.

About 40 years ago the Beddoes / Beddows had a family get together at Edgmond, near Neport Shropshire, which was well attended and for which  my cousin, Bingey, produced a draft family tree at the time. I am now using this to expand on the Beddoes / Beddows family tree.

Hope the above assists and apologies for not seeing your post earlier

Regards

Clive
