I am researching my family links to the GROOM family. The areas where they have been located so far are High Ercall, Roden, Newtown, Wem, Ellesmere and Shifnal from the early 1700s. My descendents left Shropshire around 1840 moving to the Wednesbury area of Staffordshire. An Elizabeth VICKARS from Roden married into the GROOM family in 1713, so too did Sarah LEE of Tetchill in 1817. Other marriages included Elizabeth LAURENCE, Thomas WITNAY, Sarah DAWES, Rachel PERRY and Richard AMIES. I would be most grateful of a contact from anyone who has connections with any of the above

Hi, I have been researching the Groom family. My relatives start with Elizabeth Groom 1805 Uffington-1892 Wales and back to William 1575-1628 High Ercall. Hope to hear from you soon, Sheila

Hi, my 'Groom' family come from Wem, Newtown, High Ercall, arriving in West Bromwich in time for the 1840 census. Sarah Lee married John Groom they are my 3x great grandparents.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I'm not sure if your John Groom is on my tree. Could you give me some more info about him please. A lot of my Groom family members end up in Cheltenham.

Thanks Sheila

Hi Sheila, sorry about delay in responding, forgot I was even on this site! My John Groom was born in Wem 1796, married Sarah Lee at St Oswald, Chester in1817 and died in West Bromwich, 25th March 1876.

John spent most of his time in West Bromwich in the workhouse.

I believe they had six children but I'm only certain of three.

Regards

Mac
