Hi,

My family appear to originate from Prees in the early to mid 1800's.

I have recently received a copy of the 'Monumental Inscriptions of St. Chad's Church' and also the United Reformed Church (thank you all for compiling and providing this).  However, despite my surname being prevalent many times, there appears to be no record of any member of my family in them.

I am looking for some advice really as to where to search next.  I am looking at procuring death certificates for a few family members to validate their locations but if someone came from Prees during this time, would they be buried anywhere else?

Many thanks for any guidance that you can provide.

Mike

Hello Mike

The first thing to note is that only the minority of the population could afford to have a grave stone so it is not unusual for any particular family to be missing from the MI transcripts.

It would help us to help you if you told us the names of some of your family together with the dates of their birth and death and occupation just in case someone reading your message is able to offer some information.

The Prees Burial Registers are on the Find my Past web site (subscription) but unfortunately only up to 1851 although the Shropshire Archives web site lists them as being available until 1900 which is the cut off date for most of their records on the FmP web site.  You may need to contact Shropshire Archives and/or FmP to establish why this is.  You can view the Prees burials up to 1922 if you visit Shropshire Archives.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for that information.

I may start a separate thread for general information on the family that i am looking at so as not to confuse the titles.

Many thanks, Mike
