Hi all. I have a baptism of a John HIGLEY in a parish register. All it says at the top of the page is Parish of Welshampton. I have looked at the beginning of the dataset but no clues as the the church name there.

The only church I can find on google is St Michael and All Angels designed by Sir Gilbert Scott but it was not built till the 1860s. What was the parish church called before that? Presumably an old building was demolished to make way for the present one?

Many thanks.

Hello GallowayLass

Please see below some information about Welshampton which I have found in my 1941 edition of Kelly's Directory of Shropshire which I hope will answer your question.

Looks like I can safely enter St Michael and All Angels regardless of date as the building was simply renewed each time. Many thanks for the extract Michael. Much appreciated.
