An insight into the life of Rowland, Lord Hill, a son of Shropshire who became Wellington’s most trusted General in the Peninsular War and at Waterloo, and is commemorated by a statue on top of the tallest Doric column in England.

Subject - "The view from above: recent archaeological aerial survey work in Shropshire"

This talk will cover the English Heritage funded archaeological aerial survey projects undertaken in recent years by Shropshire Council. Using examples of medieval and post-medieval monuments, buildings and landscapes, it will illustrate why aerial survey is such a valuable tool for archaeologists.

This is another of our trips further afield to meet members and other folk interested in Shropshire Family History.
Shropshire Family History Society will be having a stand at the event, with a team of volunteer helpers, computers and books. They will also be selling a selection of Local Interest Books and Maps, some Family History Books and our own CDs.
Due to a family bereavement John Benson is unable to give us his talk tonight, so we have arranged an alternative talk by Idris Evans "Memories of a Bygone Era".
