Good Morning!  My first post in forum, so please forgive any flaws.  I am at the point of contemplating a visit the Shropshire Archives in order to confirm entries on www.familysearch.org.  Specifically for John HALLMARK (B: August 1763) baptized 6 August 1763 Whitchurch, Shropshire and then married to Elizabeth CAUKIN on 21 April 1789 Whitchurch, Shropshire.  I have also come in contact with other family trees on ancestry.com which take the line back to 1717 with the birth of James HALLMARK and then his marriage to Margaret WOODFIND 15 July 1749 Whitchurch, Shropshire, but would prefer to confirm all entries.  After reading the website for the Shropshire Archives, it instructs the need to prebook a microfiche reader, is that really necessary, are the archives really that busy?  Any and all suggestions are welcome, perhaps there is another option other than taking the 2 hour train ride up to Shrewsbury?

Cheers, Renee

Hello Renee, I personally have never had to prebook a microfiche, but it can get busy on a weekend. I am going to the archive tomorrow and would be happy to look up the records if you would like me too. Jason

Jason, thank you so much for the offer and information....I think I may bite the bullet and head up there tomorrow since I have many entries to photocopy.  I'm glad to hear that prebooking during the week is not necessary, perhaps I will see you there!  Thanks, Renee

p.s. please tell me that baptisms, marriages, burials can be copied on the same day?

Yes, each photocopy from the microfiche costs 50p. I advise that you take some proof of id and get a readers ticket when you're there as some of the registers are not on microfiche and you will have to request the original to be brought up to the readers room for you to examine. Happy hunting! Jason

Thanks again Jason.  Can anyone advise if the information that I have "Whitchurch, Shropshire" and the specific dates will be enough to find the entries on microfiche or is it necessary to also know the actual church?  On www.familysearch.org the entries do not include the name of the church in which the events took place.

Received message from "RootsChat" member that the name of the church is probably "St. Alkumd's", built 1712, hopefully this will allow for pointed investigation!
