 My g.g.g.grandfather was born in 1770 / 1771 / 1772.

He was christened in 1772 at St. Leonard's Church, Bridgnorth.

His parents were William NORTON and Sarah. I believe they were married in 1772 in Bridgnorth.BUT I cannot find their marriage.

Bride's name could possibly have been Sarah CLINTON or Sarah CLAEATON.

Any help appreciated, thank you, Bumper

Hello Bumper

I presume your ancestor is John NORTON who was baptised at St Leonards, Bridgnorth on 26 July 1772 the son of William NORTON and Sarah.  Whilst I can't see any more children for this couple have you explored the possibility that they might have had any earlier children which would mean that their marriage could have been some years earlier?

It might help if you explained how you arrived at the possible surname of Sarah.

Hello Mike - thanks for message. My ancestor is John Norton baptised at St Leonards, Bridgnorth on 26 July 1770 the son of William NORTON and Sarah.( Year of Birth now amended from new information discovered).

I did find a marriage in 1772 for William and Sarah on the I.G.I.

That information has now disappeared from the site.

1851 Census NorthamptonshireJohn Norton age 81 (Born c.1770 ). Born Shropshire.

John Norton Death Registered: Quarter1. 1860. Hardingstonen Northamptonshire.

He was living in Northamptonshire with his married daughter Jane Storer.

John married in Birmingham to Jane Plant and they had 9 children.

Their son John Norton born 1801 Birmingham became the Engineer at the Mint in Bombay, then moved to the Mint in Lisbon.

He and his wife are buried in St. George's English Church in Lisbon, Portugal.

I have his Memoirs written in 1865, and photograph of his grave.

Cheers, Bumper.
