My Mum was evacuated from Bootle nr Liverpool during WW2 to Rose Cottage, Craven Arms, Clun. My Mum passed away 2 years ago aged 81 and I now regret not taking her back there. I am researching my family history and would love to visit Craven Arms to see where my Mum lived for a while, as she was very happy there. Is Rose Cottage still there and if so where in Craven Arms is it.

Hello Lyn

Searching the Royal Mail web site for a possible postcode by entering "Rose Cottage, Craven Arms" (with or without the quotes) brings up several possibles, some in Craven Arms itself and some in the surrounding villages.

Have you got any more information to help work out which Rose Cottage you want?  Any comment about walking to somewhere from the house or how far it was to school.  Anything like that might help.  Presumably you don't have a photograph?

Thanks Mike

I have no photos but my Aunty, my Mum's older sister used to visit her there, she is now 91. She told me she used to get off the train at Craven Arms then walk from there to Rose Cottage,

Hello Lyn

If they walked from the railway station that presumably limits the choice to a property actually in Craven Arms.  The difficulty is that there are at least two possibles and I can't be sure that there aren't more.

I know that one is in Newton Street but I can't find it on the map so have no way to work out which it is.

The other, or more correctly others, is a group of three properties known as Rose Cottages in Market Street.  They show on the largest Ordnance Survey map and are located on the west side of Market Street about half way along its length. This view on Google Street view shows them.

Can you show this image to your aunt to see if it means anything to her.  I suppose you could first of all ask her if it was a two or three storey property which might help to make a decision.
